Why Munnar is Must Visit Heaven in God’s own city Kerala?

Munnar

The journey started in March, 2019 when I took a solo trip to God’s own country Kerala from Delhi. Thrill That I get about my trips is I don’t rely on anyone for my itinerary, I plan and execute all on my own.  Was all the more thrilled for Kerala as it was lying in my bucket list for years.

Kerala state hosts a couple of cities which you may not be able to cover in one trip. For my 4 days trip, Munnar was enough to cover. Though I explore Kochi enroute as well.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oeeonk2wqPE
Kochi Fort

How to Plan Your Itinerary for Munnar?

Budget

  • For a single person with a decent stay, you can expect minimum cost of Rs 35,000 . This includes your airfare and stay. If you are looking out for 3-star property or above,  than rate can definitely increase.  Of course, other costs like meals, Kerala ayurvedic medicines & spices spa can cost you much more.
  • Commute If you are visiting Kerala from Delhi than return can cost you anywhere between Rs. 7,000 to Rs. 12,000 (to and fro) based on when you book your flight. If you plan your trip little early, you can expect the best rates. The nearest airport to Munnar is Kochi. From Kochi airport, it can easily take you 2-3 hours to reach Munnar.

I took the Vistara airline. All was good except their shortage of food in premium and non-transparency. Few of their crew females were rude too. However, it was compensated with a few other crews who were better. They could definitely do better by making pre-arrangement of food and grooming their crew.

  • Stay

If your focus is travel and doesn’t want to bother much about accommodation then you can expect decent property between Rs. 1000 to Rs. 3000 per night including or excluding breakfast.

I stayed in two different cities in two different places. First was hotel neighborhood, another was a homestay In the tea forest area of Munnar The Rainforest. Staying at both places was comfortable.

Hotel Neighborhood

It’s recently constructed and around 1-hour drive from the airport. It has got a unique lift that opens with the door. Rooms were spacious and clean. They had a TV but there was no connection. Washroom was spacious but not perfectly clean. The best part about this place was the Ayurvedic products for the body, skin & hairs. The only drawback here was the noise I was getting in the night of housekeeping as they may be doing some work.

When I called the reception he panicked and knocked at my door. Since it was quite late at the night around 11:30 pm. I was hesitant about opening it. But he was so dumb that he used the master key to open it. Though I don’t doubt his intention but from a hotel you expect this much decency not to enter females room without their consent. Language may be a barrier but this should also be part of the management of the hotel, I personally feel so.

I booked this accommodation with breakfast so got the chance to taste local cuisines of Kochi. Food was decent, there were not many variations. I tasted their local food called Puth made up of rice with chickpeas that had amazing Kerala spices. Overall was ok but if curry was hot it would have been better. I like the way they utilized the space in a small area. With the price, I paid stay was ok.

Hotel Rainforest

My next visit was in Munnar where I stayed for maximum time i.e. 3 days. I booked the cottage in the middle of the forest.  Area and ambiance were really good and value for money. One of the best parts of the place is the Hemmingway bird that wakes you up as shown in the video.

There was lots of greenery around also it was full of beautiful flowers. I got fresh food from their special cook.  Another local cuisine I tried her was Ittiyam which again is made of rice. It’s kind of rice noodles. In the south, most of the food is made of rice though tastes completely different.  You can get some of the best budget deal in this beautiful property. Sharing some of the pics that I took here.

  • Additional Cost

Any other meals based on the restaurant chosen. Shopping of spices which don’t have any limit. Buying tea and homemade chocolates. Last but not the least famous medicated spa. If you want your stay to be comfortable than it’s good to book a cab including airfares to the entire stay. The standard cost of the cab ranges from Rs. 7500 to Rs. 9000 for minimum 500 km after that it varies. However complete Munnar can be covered within the cost without bearing any additional cost.

How to Plan a Trip to Varanasi, City of Temples & Ganges?

Varanasi , Varanshi , Trip , Travel , Photography, solo , holiday , bus , spiritual , detox

Approximate Cost for the Trip  – Rs. 6 to 8 K

Best Time: October to March

Varanasi is an ancient city in the Uttar Pradesh state of North India. It’s a perfect city to detox from mundane hustle and bustle. City inhabits many ghats that can leave a mesmerizing impact and help you heal inside out. It also hosts many temples; Kashi Vishwanath is one of the most popular. Besides so many places to visit its hub for some great delicacies that can lift your taste buds. A must visit city not just once but many times as narrated by frequent visitors. Varanasi hosts lakhs of a population, with an area of about 80 km.

How to Commute From Delhi?

You can commute from Delhi in three ways:-

  • AC Sleeper Bus – Cost- Sleeper – To & Fro – Rs. 2600

Usually, sleeper Volvo is best to commute from Delhi. You must check the rating before taking the Volvo; however, it’s not the only criteria. Avoid the Royal Blue travels, my personal experience. While commuting one side there were some annoying noisy bunch of creep middle age men. When asked to talk slowly they became more aggressive. Conductor takes the least responsibility in managing such unwanted issues. While coming back from Varanasi to Delhi it was even worse, the window glasses of my seat started breaking all of the sudden. It could have been a major injury but the conductor and drivers were least bothered. The only good part was  they had washrooms without water and flush.

I would suggest you to take a semi-seater Volvo that may be little uncomfortable but may be safer and lesser in cost as well. If you wish to take sleeper only than try other options than Royal Travels. Usually bus drops you to some petrol pump, 5-6 km near the city. From there you can get rick costing you not more than Rs. 200- 300 bases on the location of your stay.

  • Train – Cost – To and Fro- Based on availability

Trains are always the best option if you get the tickets on time. You can always contact some local agent for the same as there’s always waiting there. With tatkal tickets, you can book them at less cost.

  • Flight – Rs 10,000 To and Fro

If you have a deep pocket than flight is the best way to go. Not only will it save your time but will make you journey comfortable as well. If you are a frequent traveler than you must analyze the opportunity cost of your flight as the money saved in commute can be used in another travel. Any traveler prefers to take 10 -12 trips in a year so you need to assign your budget accordingly. However, if you travel once in a blue moon than it should be the best option.

Where to Stay?

There are very cheap accommodations starting from Rs. 500 per night. The upper limit can go to Rs 1500- Rs 2000 per night for a deluxe hotel. If you wish to go for a higher end properties like 3-5 stars than the price will be definitely higher. There are lots of places near ghats also that can cost you anywhere from Rs. 700 to Rs. 1000 per night. Varanasi is a hub for many foreign tourists its occupies throughout the year, it’s good to book to book desired stay before arrival

How to travel Mcleodganj  ; Triund & BirBilling

Mcleodganj ; Dharmshala ; Kangra ; Triund ; Bir ; Billing ; Travel ; Trip ; Journey ; Adventurous

Mcleodganj is  small village in Dharamshala . Triund & Bir Billing are another village in Kangra ; HP .

It takes  overnight journey from Delhi and  5-6 hours from Chandigarh .

I recently took  trip of around 14  people to these  adventurous  cities  and it was great travel.

Its prudential to cover these three places i.e Mcleodganj ; Triund & Birbilling together as they all are nearby .

Official Leave

All you need is 4 nights & 3 days to cover these 3 cities . We we plan overnight journey on any  Thursday ;  we may need leave only for 1 day i.e Friday considering Saturday & Sunday to be off .Sunday night we can come back to reach delhi on early morning Monday .

How to Travel

We can either book overnight Volvo  or go by our own vehicle. However driving  down may be little tiresome .Best option  is to  take ac  Volvo .It usually starts from Majnu ka Tilla from delhi and departs at Kashmiri Gate . There are pitstops on the way where we can have our dinner . Bus are direct from Delhi to Dharmshala or Mcleodganj depending on where we  wish to stay

Where to Stay

Either we can plan to stay at Dharamshala or Mcleodganj both are quiet close . As they are central point for all three destinations as per itinerary . There are many hotels & home stays available as per our budget . Usually with the duration that we have i.e  4 nights & 3 days out of which 2 goes in travelling ; another in Triund ;  its just about only 1 day that we need to plan .

Places to Cover

Day 1:- Bir Billing ….

We booked our stay at Mcleodganj and took bike ride to Birbilling . It takes around 2-3 hours to reach there . Bikes can be hired on rent ; it cost you around 600 for the ride & fuel charges may be extra . Those who are not comfortable riding bike can take scooties  or can hire a cab as well. However  view from bikes is phenomenon .

After reaching bir billing we went for Asia’s largest Paragliding hub … This is the major attraction of this place . View  from top was really amazing . I always wanted to fly . This dream came true finally ..

Paragliding in the month of May supposedly peak season can cost anywhere between Rs . 1900 to Rs . 2500 with video and photographs. To know  the contact numbers  of the agents please ask in the comments and subscribe to newsletter ; will inbox the details .

After this adventure we took bike ride back to Mcleodganj  ; stayed in hotel & home stay .

Day 2 : Triund Trek ..

One of  the most famous trek in India . Its friendly for beginners as well . It takes aound 7 km to  cover the same . Since its little steep it may take 3-4 hours to reach there . Its good to plan night stay here not only because of view but to take some rest as well . There are many travel agents who can facilitate the entire trek in convenient way . I am really thankful to my guide Arjun who tried to make my trek as smooth as possible  and took some fabulous shots too  . He can be reached at 8219865506 . .Stay alongwith 3 meals can cost anywhere between Rs . 1200 to Rs. 2000.

Day 3- Mcleodganj

We came back from triund around 11 am ; took shower in hotel  and went for city visit . Some of the major attractions here are

Bhagsu Temple & waterwall ;

Dalai lama Temple & museum ;

Dul Lake & Church

Local Markets

Tibetian cafes .

All of this can be covered within 5-6 hrs . Bhagsu waterfall is closed because of shortage of water . There’s one famous Shivay café there  .Its small trek of 2-3 km to visit there . I like healing & smoothing chants at Dalai Lama Temple . You will see lots of monks roaming in meditative state . There are so  dedicated  that they may not even  bother to push you if you are careless to maintain decorum . However  some are really friendly .

How to Plan  Budget Trip in Beautiful city of Lansdowne?

Lansdowne ; Delhi ; trip ; tarveler ;solotraveler ; budget ; Uttrakhand ; Weekend ;Kotdwar ; Journey

Hey, all solo travelers   hope you are all set to choose your next travelling destination . If still confused than Lansdowne can be good option . You can cover this place over the weekend. I recently visited  this city in month of April . To beginwith  ; this is one of the closest hill station from delhi.

Lansdowne ; Delhi ; trip ; tarveler ;solotraveler ; budget ; Uttrakhand ; Weekend ;Kotdwar ; Journey

If you are planning your journey from Delhi than it should take you approximately 6-7 hours to reach . Start at early morning or late night to escape traffic. Delhi to Lansdowne distance is approximately 264 km. Moreover  summers are  best time to visit here .

Since buses may not be conveniently available try to take a cab or join some community who organizes a trip of a solo traveler to make it fun and save some money. The cab may cost anywhere from 3 to 4 thousand. However, if you plan with a group; entire trip can be covered in maximum  Rs.5000 to Rs. 6000. Though this article Is about solo traveling but you may be wondering why I am referring to a group. This is also because to make a smart & safe choice. There are few solo traveling communities that can make your journey safe and more fun. All the more it can be pocket-friendly. This can give you the feel of traveling solo yet you don’t have to suffer from the limitation of planning a trip alone like more expenditure  or other risks .

Incase of girls it may not be that convenient to travel all alone because of lots of mindset issue. Especially if you are traveling to a  tourist destination in  small cities or villages there are lots of judgmental people. Nevertheless, there may be some places down south which may be female friendly ; will try to  cover that in my later posts. But there is good news as well there are some traveling companies that are organizing your solo trips at an unbelievable price.

So the point is how you can choose to go to Lansdowne with solo traveling communities.

I  am going to start with basic details that you may have tried but probably not sure may be that’s why you are reading my article.  I will address all your doubts as I happen to manage  this phase of jittery & apprehension .Hopefully my experience may help  some.

How to reach Lansdowne from new Delhi

If you plan to travel alone than you can either take your own car or hire one as there are no Volvos.  Another option can be to book train  tickets from delhi to  Kotdwar and take bus or cab from there. . Train starts from old Delhi railway station. Distance from kotdwara to Lansdowne is hardly 1 to 1.5 hours. You can either hire a cab or take a local bus. This may be the cheapest option.

Taxi fare from kotdwara to Lansdowne is  very nominal it can be anywhere between Rs. 80  to Rs. 200 based  on whether you are taking shared vehicle or individual .

If you plan to take your car than approx.  cost one side may start  from Rs 3000 to 3500 for 4 seaters; if you plan to share with a group than it can be a good option as well.

The third  & best option as per my experience is to join group  of solo travelers .  They usually include everything from to and fro; stay & share complete itinerary. It can be fun and most economical travel.

Solo ; Trip ; Jodhpur ; Traveler ; Journey ; Holiday ; vacation ;Rajasthan ; City ; Travelling

It was New Year eve of 2017 and I had only 1 city in my mind to wind up and that’s Rajasthan blue city; Jodhpur. Being from Delhi at times you feel like escaping chilling winters in December during New Year time. As its equally cold and foggy which act as a hindrance in celebration. However; down north-west here the climate is worth cherishing during that time.

Traveling in itself is fun though we may face many challenges; nevertheless comes back close to life. One such trip I can recall is visiting Jodhpur in December 2017.  Planning your solo vacation may sound little challenging but after a journey, we come back as a better person.

In this article, I am going to share how I had a great time in this magnificent city. This was possible by planning in advance from stays; conveyance ; places to visit and items to carry. Details are mentioned below.

Since any journey starts with packing the bags. Will start the article with the same.

What to pack while traveling  for  Party &  local travel

Packing all required items contributes in half of your journey. Being a female it’s important to carry the  basic things  which we may need. It may start from accessories to right apparels; flip-flops; sanitary pads; safety pins to pepper spray or any other important gadget.

Here  I will be sharing all of them. In case you are planning to travel and don’t have some then I have selected few which you can order now. The best part is they are available at great prices and can save a lot of your time.

We know the best place for excellent shots is somewhere outdoors. Good apparels add to your beauty and place. Ensure to pick right apparel in  the least possible cost. In Context of the small city like Jodhpur try to carry some traditional clothes as well along with some comfortable jeggings and night suits.  However, there’s no limit; choose as per your comfort.

Things to remember before deciding on the place.

  • Deciding about the stay

New year eve is the time when even a normal hotel becomes unavailable if not planned in advance. This is the time ; not only to have  good vacation but bid-adieu to passing year and welcoming new year with the bang. So most of the places are gone just in a blink of an eye. Selecting the place of my choice and booking in advance served my purpose.Sharing the picture of the place below where I stayed .

The journey becomes easy; smooth & convenient once we are sure how much we can spend on the entire itinerary. Since I am traveling freak I set my traveling goals well in advance. Finances play a good role in making choice and deciding best possible option.

  • Planning the duration

If you are salaried then you may have to take some prior approval for the leave. However, if you are self –employed than look out for your commitment to the client.

  • Booking the transport.

When I was traveling to Jodhpur  I booked everything in advance from departure to arrival.  That not only saved my time but give me that added comfort of the journey.

  • Ready for  contingency  plans

At times there may be an issue in the transport or stay. Always, have alternatives ready to execute. Like in my case my Volvo got canceled just two days before my departure. Luckily I was in touch with another agent who made train booking easier.

One of the most exotic forts I have visited. It reminds me of Egyptian monuments. Huge & magnificent in size yet beautiful enough to take best clicks. It’s designed in most luxurious ways. This is one of the biggest forts you can witness in North. Besides its beauty, it also has some iconic views & good museums. At the same time, they have some local artists playing traditional instruments with latest songs sharing some of them as below. To visit entire fort you need at least 1 to 1.5 hrs to cover the entire place. It’s advisable to start a journey from this place as others can be covered easily.

Above all they got great cafes to serve some delicious cookies; tea & coffee once we are back after visiting the fort.

  • Jaswant Thada

En route Mehrangarh fort is another beautiful picturesque tomb Jaswant Thada. It may remind you of Taj Mahal the way its built with White marbles. Constructed beautifully; surrounded by the city it feels good to spend some time sitting here. The best place I liked is the view of the city that’s visible from this place. Last but not the least you can hear sounds of  Nawaz in the evening clearly that act as healing. Entire place can be covered with 20-30 minutes.

  • Umaid Bhawan

Another beautiful place to visit in this historic city is another fort converted into a museum now i.e. Umaid Bhavan. There are some magnificent eyes treat artifacts. From vintage cars to ancient clocks; home decors it has got all items on the display. Another half of this place is converted into Taj hotel; 5 start property as we all know. So if you wish to take a lunch or evening break you make rest there. Approx time to cover this place is 30-45 minutes.

Located in middle of market  this place has one of the oldest clock  which runs on traditional scientific rule . Ticket available at just rs. 10 ; only the cost is of climbing almost  three steep stairs . Interesting thing is the old men who is maintaining this place with so much passion . He claims to be  quiet often searched  person on the net .  Since he insisted to take his click and spread message for him doing the honors. It was good to hear the technicalities from him about how the clock bangs twice in an hour or may be every quarter . So if you are history freak and want to dig deeper you can spare some 10-15 minutes to  visit this place too .
